You and your partner have made plans for a romantic date one Saturday. As you’re both about to head out the door, you make the mistake of looking back.
Your dog is sitting in the middle of your living room looking at you longingly and lovingly with solemn eyes that seem to peer right into your soul. You lose the fight against them puppy dog eyes so you close the door behind you and step back into your house as your partner looks between you and your dog with disbelief. But all is well because your dog has leaped into your arms with joy and its tail is wagging ecstatically.
To choose between your dog and your partner is by far one of life’s greatest conundrums. Okay, I take that back – perhaps it isn’t that much of a conundrum when all it takes is for our dogs to look at us and we pangseh our partners.
Is it any surprise then, that 4 out of 10 people regularly give their pets more attention than their partner?
But hey, our partners deserve some of our attention too! Here’s a compromise: go out on a date with both your dog and your significant other.
Canopy Garden Dining
Nestled within the verdant environs of Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, Canopy Garden Dining is a pet-friendly café with a spacious outdoor patio that is perfect for dining with your dog. A pergola that is interwoven with leafy green vines offers some shelter and creates quite a romantic dining experience for you and your partner! This place offers a classic Western dinner menu that includes a delicious ragu alla bolognese ($19), Hawaiian pizza ($17) and an assortment of drinks and desserts. If you’re there for brunch, Canopy Garden Dining has a very tempting egg benedict ($17) dish and an avocado wrap ($15) that you should try!

If you’re wondering about the peculiar way this café was named, here it is: Five &2 was established with 2 social missions. The second is their belief in hiring the marginalized and creating an all-inclusive work environment.

The Green Door
This is a mainly outdoor establishment that is tucked away in a quiet corner of Dempsey Hill. Wolf down a hearty burger ($12 – $23) with a generous slab of patty and layers upon layers of cheese, egg, lettuce and…a lot of other stuff, or chomp down on some pulled pork sliders ($13). The Green Door would be a great location for a relaxing date!
